Two roads diverged in a forest of emerging sports media, and everyone went the wrong way. Some (traditional, old-fashioned newspapers mostly) sank in the mud of hum-drum quotes, “inside access” and stuffy reportage, and could go no farther. Others went wild with shouting matches based on uninformed or half-baked opinions, and careened off the path. Still others (we’re looking at you, Deadspin), though armed with wit and temperance, fell victim to the siren songs of side shows and salacious gossip.
Now come we, the New Travelers, onto the scene. Looking down that well-traveled thoroughfare, we see the wreckage of bad blogs, dying sports pages and crass talk radio. we have turned, and we intend to blaze a trail down the other side of the fork. We have watched our industry die, but we learned it’s parting lessons. We’re better for it. And we’re starting us a journey. Come along, won’t you?
